A boycott is a way that individuals can express their anger at BP. It's a form of self-empowerment. It's not just about punishing BP, it's about finding a way to express one's anger against a hugely powerful oil company. It might or might not have an effect on BP, but if many people participated it would help keep the heat on Congress to get tougher on oil company regulation.
